The UMES National Alumni Association
Your Connection to the Community
Established around 1947 when it was still known as Maryland State College, the UMES National Alumni Association is the official representative body for more than 11,000 UMES alumni in Maryland and throughout the world. At UMES, you’re a “Flying Hawk from Day One.” Just like the university itself, UMES alumni are a lot of things. The goal of the Alumni Association is to serve the interests of alumni through educational, charitable, social, or cultural programs and involve alumni in the promotion of UMES.
The Alumni Association is governed by a 11– member Board of Directors which meets X times per year to discuss matters of interest to all alumni. The National Alumni Association is supported by staff members within the University's Office of Alumni Affairs who serve as liaisons, organize alumni events, oversee alumni chapters and communities and who work on initiatives to keep alumni connected and engaged to one another and their alma mater.
The National Alumni Association and Office of Alumni Relations hosts and promotes many different events, programs and initiatives for alumni that include:
Alumni and Admissions Programs – Each spring, the Office of Admissions hosts prospective students at events across the nation. Alumni are invited to attend and mingle with students and their families to share their love and knowledge of UMES.
Career-related Programs – Every spring, alumni are invited to participate in Career Week that offers students an opportunity to explore their professional options through presentations, workshops and one-on-one mentoring and networking with alumni and employers. Additionally, alumni are invited to participate in the Professional Network designed to connect active alumni and employer volunteers to UMBC students in support of their career exploration and academic development.
General Events – Throughout the year, we will host other events, including special speakers on campus, regional events, athletic events, and connect with UMES alumni in their communities.
